Poachers' Boat impounded after chase from Robben Island - Oct 2014
In the early hours of 07 October 2014, residents were woken by revving outboards
and searchlights: poachers at work off Robben Island had been challenged by
Marine
Protection / Law Enforcement, and opted to run for it, heading south to the
atlantic seaboard. There was minimal swell, and some moon.
The fugitives beached near the Langston's bungalow on 4th beach, and fled
up the stairs. A search ensued, burglar alarms
triggered, and the SA Police Services and private security patrolled landside,
in support of their water-born colleagues.
No arrests were made, but the large rubber duck was abandoned, and impounded.
the pic below shows the vessel being relaunched at about 9am. It was
subsequently towed to Table Bay, and attached.
Sadly, Clifton bay itself is sadly no longer a prime target for kreef or
perlemoen,
as it is all but fished out.
